Paul Walker spills details on Kurt Russell's character in Fast and Furious 7

New star Russell to play good guy 'father figure'?

'Fast and Furious 7' star Paul Walker has been speaking to MTV about the latest instalment in the fast car franchise and has let slip some juicy details on the character that Kurt Russell will be playing. This will be Walker's sixth entry in the franchise as he only failed to appear in 'The Fast and Furious: Tokyo Drift'.

The cast of the 'Fast and Furious' franchise has grown more and more impressive with each new entry with Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson joining in 'Fast Five' and now Kurt Russell and Jason Statham joining the seventh film in the franchise. With Statham confirmed as a villain, details have been sketchy so far about what role Russell would be playing in the film with rumours flying but nothing concrete until now.

Cool guy

Paul Walker has been absent from much of the 'Fast and Furious' news emerging from the set so far. With Vin Diesel and Tony Jaa constantly posting pictures and videos from the set on their Facebook accounts as well as Ludacris and Tyrese getting in on the action through their Instagram accounts, Walker has remained as the quiet member of the cast, only appearing in a few stills so far. Speaking in an interview with MTV to promote his new film 'Hours', Walker called Kurt Russell's character 'the cool guy that we've never had looking out for us in the past'. Rumours had emerged that Russell would be playing a villain but it seems either this is not true or Walker is trying to wrong foot fans.

Father figure

Walker went on to describe his and Diesel's characters Dom and Brian as 'misfits' and suggests that Russell will be 'kind of like the father figure' to them. Both Dom and Brian have now dabbled on both sides of the law and 'Fast and Furious 7' looks set to give them their biggest challenge yet in the form of Jason Statham's revenge seeking bad guy. Walker suggests Russell will take over from Dom in the role of father figure to Brian as Dom has 'been the father figure-slash-older brother that Brian never had'. He added 'Now we got Kurt Russell that comes in and is like, "I got you boys"'. Does this mean that Kurt Russell will have a major role, driving the action forward and guiding his younger co-stars?

Star struck

Not only is Paul Walker revealing that Russell may be on the side of Dom and Brian and the rest of the gang but he also appears to be a little star struck by acting opposite a veteran acting legend. He told MTV that 'it's cool having Kurt... I grew up watching his stuff, 'Tango & Cash' and 'Big Trouble in Little China' some eighteen hundred thousand times - it was one of my favorites as a kid.' He also suggested that Russell is a 'cool guy' in real life and has similar interests to Walker saying 'he's into cool stuff. I really like having him around'.

I'm disappointed to hear Russell is not taking a villain role in 'Fast and Furious 7' but still not convinced that Walker is telling the whole truth about Russell's character.

Pete is a cautious fan of the Fast and Furious films; enjoying the fast cars and furious fights but not so keen on the cheesy dialogue. However he's not going to be telling Vin Diesel that last bit any time in a hurry. Follow Pete on Twitter or check out his film and TV blog: I Love That Film.
