Peaky Blinders fans will be "shocked" by the movie

Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight has teased shock and delight for fans when they finally get to see the upcoming film.

Speaking to NME, Knight confirmed the film plans for the hugely successful series are progressing nicely and that "it's gonna happen this September".

"I'm just doing the final polishes, which will continue up until the day before we start shooting. But we're there. We've got everything sorted, we've got all the commitments we need, we are ready to go," he shared.

Knight is confident that the film will meet expectations and allow fans to come together to share the experience. He attributed that to the larger budget and the dedication of the cast and crew.

"I think the film is gonna be a step up again, and it's gonna be great that Peaky fans can meet in one place and watch it. The budget will be bigger, but also because we know we're ending this chapter, we're all going to try to do our best."

When asked how the fans would react to the film, Knight hinted at an emotional rollercoaster. "I hope [they'll be] shocked and delighted and horrified and then delighted again and then shocked again!" he said.

"Cillian [Murphy] is really up for it. So I can't wait for it to start shooting," he added, referencing the actor's return to his leading role as Tommy Shelby.

Murphy may be an Oscar winner but he hasn't forgotten his brilliant TV work amidst all his accolades. "Isn't it amazing? I'm so pleased for him because he deserves it," said Knight, discussing Murphy's success.

"After every award that he won, he would text and say, 'I really can't wait to be doing Peaky,' confirming that none of this was going to change what we're going to do next."

Peaky Blinders is available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
