Peaky Blinders and Sabrina stars join Twister sequel

Peaky Blinders star Daryl McCormack will star alongside Chilling Adventures of Sabrina star Kiernan Shipka in the eagerly-anticipated Twister sequel.

Variety reports that McCormack's character will play a supporting role to Where The Crawdads Sing's Daisy Edgar-Jones, who was previously announced for the movie.

Top Gun: Maverick actor Glen Powell will also appear in the film, which is titled Twisters, alongside In the Heights' Anthony Ramos and Nope's Brandon Perea.

A host of names round out the cast, including Maura Tierney, Harry Hadden-Paton, Nik Dodani, Sasha Lane, David Corenswet, Tunde Adebimpe, and Katy O’Brian.

Minari's Lee Isaac Chung is set to direct the film, with The Revenant's Mark L Smith penning the script.

Twisters has been described as a 'new chapter' of the original 1996 movie, and is set for release on July 19, 2024.

Starring Helen Hunt, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Bill Paxton, and Cary Elwes, Twister followed the story of Bill, a storm chaser, and Jo, a meteorologist, who put their impending divorce on hold to battle a series of violent tornadoes that are destroying their hometown in Oklahoma.

The film grossed $495 million worldwide and became the second-highest-grossing film of 1996, garnering Academy Award nominations for Best Visual Effects and Best Sound.

It also spawned a popular immersive ride at Universal Studios Florida, which opened in 1998 and was open for 17 years.

According to Empire Online, the new film could focus on Jo and Bill's daughter as she follows in her parents' footsteps and tries to understand natural disasters.

Twisters is scheduled to be released on July 19, 2024.
