People can't get enough of this Britney Spears T-shirt at Target — for men

Target has led the way in defying gender stereotypes with children’s toys and clothing. This summer, it has been quietly doing so with its adult clothing as well, selling a Britney Spears T-shirt in men’s sizes. If the responses online are any indication, it’s a big hit among the pop star’s male fans.

The shirt is a pretty simple white cotton-blend crewneck, featuring the photo from Spears’s 2001 album, Britney. As the blog pointed out, what’s different about this shirt, along with versions sporting pics of late Mexican singer Selena, is that Target’s typical music fan offerings for men up until this point focused on male artists or rock bands.

Britney fans are ordinarily a vocal, enthusiastic bunch, and no less so when sharing their love of these shirts. “Oh My GODNEY! We are LOVING that local stores are now starting to sell ICONIC shirts of our queen, and the best part is they are affordable for EVERYONE!” gushed the fan site Absolute Britney when the shirts first hit Target shelves in June. But some are just discovering the items in stores this month.

“Not gonna lie, this might be my new favorite shirt. @Target on point with the Britney fan merch,” wrote Michael Covelli on Twitter.

“Thanks Target, ya really outdid yaself. #britney #targetknowswhatsup,” Matthew Cigolini said on Instagram.

And when Jacob “Spears” showed off his, someone on Target’s social media team even wrote him back with Spears songs, just to show they know their stuff.

“We’ve been ‘Anticipating’ these shirts! We don’t need a ‘Mood Ring’ to know how excited our guests are and love to see your #TargetStyle!

The irony is that these Britney shirts may be too popular. Some have tweeted that their local stores are sold out.

“Oh wow that Britney shirt they had at Target is sold out everywhere. TOO relevant!” wrote @candidlycarlo.

“@Target I’m getting really upset seeing all these people with the britney shirt around the US but it’s never been in stock near me!” Johnny complained.

As of this writing, it does appear to be available online, however.
