People are reacting to the big cameras on Apple’s new iPhone 11s

Apple executives have taken the stage for the tech giant’s annual harvest of new iPhones – and this time, people’s reactions included a lot of LOLs.

Apple launched a new iPhone 11 and (in a first for the company) an iPhone 11 Pro and an iPhone 11 Pro Max.

A particular target for mockery was the giant cameras on the back of the new devices. The Pro models had the first triple-lens rear camera systems to be seen on iPhone handsets.

Apple also revealed details of a new game subscription service, Arcade, which will cost £4.99 in the UK.

There were also more details of its Netflix-like streaming service, Apple TV Plus, which will come free for a year with new Apple devices, and be priced $4.99 per month in America.

Apple also launched an updated Apple Watch device and a new iPad.

When will the iPhone 11s be released?

The iPhone 11, the iPhone 11 Pro and the iPhone 11 Pro Max will be available from September 20, with the flagship costing £1,049.

The event comes in the middle of a busy period for the smartphone market. Last month Samsung launched its latest Galaxy Note smartphone, while Nokia and Sony both announced new handsets at the IFA tech show in Berlin last week.

Later this month, Huawei will announce its next flagship phone and Samsung’s foldable Galaxy Fold phone will also go on sale.

Thomas Husson, principal analyst at Forrester, said: “2019 is definitely a transition year for Apple. The company has embarked on a journey to generate new revenue streams by pivoting to the service business.

“Apple has an opportunity to evolve its business model by increasingly bundling content and subscription services on top of its hardware. So I think we will also get more details on new service offerings such as Arcade.”
