One viewer simply wrote: "Peter Andre presenting GB News Wtf?"

Another criticised the network for picking Andre as a news host: "That says just about all we need to know about Peter Andre and GB News desperation to find presenters for their rubbish."

Though many of the comments were viewers expressing their astonishment, Andre did win over some of the audience with one writing on social media: "Peter Andre doing a good job on the breakfast show today, very professional indeed."

Another watching called for Andre to become a more permanent part of GB News: "Just waking up to see Peter on GB news with Ellie has made my morning. I’m hoping Peter is going to be a permanent fixture in the channel."

On Tuesday, Andre announced he would be co-hosting the Wednesday and Thursday editions of the 6-9:30am show alongside Ellie Costello.

He also spoke to MailOnline about preparing to make his breakfast hosting debut: "I love presenting and have been doing it on and off for years but I knew this was a tough gig and I knew that Eamonn is incredible and so is the other presenters – so I was very nervous, I’m not going to lie."

Andre has also refused to commit on whether he would be hosting future shows on GB News, the right wing channel that has garnered much criticism for its spreading of conspiracy theories, repeated breaches of its Ofcom license and coverage of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Current presenters on the network include Eamonn Holmes, Dan Wootton and Nigel Farage.
