Peter Capaldi filming latest ‘Devil’s Hour’ series at expanded Shepperton Studios
Peter Capaldi has started filming Prime Video’s latest season of ‘The Devil’s Hour’ at Amazon and MGM’s sprawling new space at the iconic Shepperton Studios.
Former ‘Doctor Who’ actor Peter, 65, is returning to the show to play Gideon Shepherd – a criminal who “remembers” the future – with Jessica Raine, 41, reprising her role as Lucy Chambers, a social worker plagued by insomnia.
Created by Tom Moran and executive produce by ‘Doctor Who’ writer Steven Moffat through his Hartswood Films company, the series started on Amazon Prime Video in 2022 before being renewed for two more series.
The expansion at Shepperton Studios is said to boast “world-class amenities” and provide an additional 17 sound stages, 548,000 sq ft of production and workshop spaces as well as two backlots.
Amazon MGM Studios have taken a total of nine new stages and Netflix will be taking eight in addition to their existing 14 leased stages on the original Shepperton site.
The development makes Shepperton Studios the second biggest film studio in the world with a total of 31 purpose-built sound stages alongside ancillary production accommodation, the whole site covers 1.5 million sq ft.
Chris Bird, managing director of Prime Video UK, said about the expansion: “It feels fitting that, 10 years from the launch of Prime Video, we’re beginning our tenure in brand new facilities at Shepperton Studios.
“It’s so exciting that some of our most loved series and movies around the world will be made right here in the UK, including season three of our fantastic UK original ‘The Devil’s Hour’.
“Shepperton Studios have long been synonymous with world class filmmaking, and we’re delighted to continue supporting and investing in the UK creative industries.”
