A five-year-old boy who was found dead in a river has been described as the “kindest boy you could ever wish to meet” after three people were arrested on suspicion of murder.

Logan Williamson was found in the River Ogmore near his family home in Pandy Park, Bridgend, south Wales around 5.45am on Saturday.

He was taken to the Princess of Wales Hospital where he was confirmed dead.

Two adults and a 13-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of murder, South Wales Police said.

According to neighbours, detectives investigating the incident seized doorbell camera footage from the street in the hope it would provide answers to Logan's death.

Locals said that Logan had been self-isolating at the family home before his death, having tested positive for Covid-19.

Meanwhile, police divers spent a third day searching the river as neighbours say officers were seen removing items of clothing from the riverbank.

Locals paid tribute to Logan, who they described as "the kindest boy you could meet", with one woman saying: "He had a lovely mischievous smile and was a cheeky chap."

"He would often be outside with his mum and their little baby and always looked so happy."

Neighbour Frederick Witchell, 78, said: "He seemed like such a nice little boy. It's very sad.

"The police have been here all day again today, but they are not telling us anything."

Logan is believed to have lived in the area for the past three years with his mother, Angharad Hunt, who recently had another baby with her partner, Jay Cole, according to neighbours.

Dozens of officers, including forensics teams and police divers, have been scouring the playing field and paths leading from the family home in Sarn, less than quarter of a mile away from the River Ogmore.

Police say they are continuing to investigate how Logan ended up in the water as "there are a lot of people in the local community who would like answers about what happened to him".

A force spokeswoman said: "South Wales Police can confirm that following reports of concerns for a missing five-year-old boy in Sarn, Bridgend, and the subsequent finding of the body in the Ogmore River near Pandy Park, three people have been arrested.

"A 39-year-old male, 30-year-old female and 13-year-old male, all from the Bridgend area, have been arrested on suspicion of murder and are currently in police custody. We are not looking for anyone else in relation to this incident.
