With shooting on 'Fast and Furious 7' confirmed to be occurring all across the globe, one bit of news suggests the seventh instalment in the franchise is sticking a little closer to home for at least one of its huge action set pieces.
Pikes Peak is a mountain in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado that is likely to be the setting of a seriously vertiginous race or chase around its winding roads, high up in the clouds. Peaking at over 4000 metres (14,000 feet), it is a National Historical Landmark and also the perfect place to see high speed vehicles doing buttock clenching stunts as they whiz around the roads.
First Showing is reporting that an unnamed Hollywood production is coming to shoot on Pikes Peak in September. Though the film's title has not been revealed, Paul Walker was in the area recently to be the Grand Marshal of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The highway of Pikes Peak is definitely going to be partially or completely closed in the early parts of September suggesting there is going to be a serious operation in progress and all signs lead to this being a 'Fast and Furious 7' shoot.
Filming on 'Fast and Furious 7' is being rushed ahead full throttle in order to have the film released for summer 2014 with casting additions being announced frequently. The film crew will be on top of the mountain for approximately two weeks and locals have reportedly seen vehicles that have been shipped in and are being prepared for the shoot.
With cars, a dizzying track and Paul Walker all on the scene, it certainly looks like Pikes Peak will be a prime location for filming on 'Fast and Furious 7'. With little known of the story so far except that Jason Statham appears to be out for revenge on Dom and the gang, it is uncertain where Pikes Peak may fit into the story. Also the location could be playing itself or it could be doubling for some far flung location on the other side of the world. Only time will tell...
With such a high peak, people have a higher rate of respiration at the top of the mountain due to less oxygen. The stars and stunt drivers will undoubtedly be bringing their own brand of breathless entertainment to the action scenes filmed atop Pikes Peak. At such high altitudes, the risk of danger is terrible but the rewards will be huge if the team can pull off the same kind of action that has made previous entries in the franchise so thrilling.

Pete is a cautious fan of the Fast and Furious films; enjoying the fast cars and furious fights but not so keen on the cheesy dialogue. However he's not going to be telling Vin Diesel that last bit any time in a hurry…
