Roads policing units in Wiltshire spotted two vehicles that were too heavy to be legally on the roads earlier this week.
First, they spotted a car transporter on the M4 that was overweight and not using a tachograph.
The driver did not have an operator’s licence and Driver & Vehicle Standards Agency staff found numerous defects on the vehicle itself after carrying out checks.
Officers fined the driver and issued a prohibition notice for the transporter.
Later that day (Thursday), RPU spotted the driver of a foreign-registered vehicle who was on the phone while behind the wheel.
After stopping the lorry, they found it to be nearly 500kg overloaded – even though it was empty.
A spokesman for Wiltshire Specialist Operations said: “These custom builds are not suitable for the roads! Prohibition issued to the vehicle and on the spot penalty.”
