It looks as though Gambit will be showing off those card-throwing moves, as Channing Tatum prepares by learning some sleight-of-hand.

During an interview with Screen Rant, ‘Gambit’ producer Reid Carolin revealed that Channing Tatum has been working on his card skills.

“Last night we were with my friend who I went to college with, this guy David Kwong who is an incredible magician and he was teaching Chan how to throw cards and do sleight of hand and all that,” he said. “So we’re producing that and I’m mostly just writing stuff, both things are female-driven but they’re totally different kinds of stories.”

Of course, Gambit is renowned amongst the X-Men for his card-throwing skills… and combined with the ability to convert potential energy into kinetic energy, it looks as though he’ll be taking out some bad guys with those signature moves.

And that sounds rather awesome to me.

But will Tatum get the chance to use that Cajun accent>

“[Hearing the accent] probably is a spoiler but you should ask him,” said Carolin. “I don’t think he has it yet.”

Hailing from Louisiana, the iconic mutant is proud of his heritage – speaking with a thick Cajun accent. And this is something that Channing Tatum is desperate to get right. After all, he’s already admitted he’s willing to put in the work.

“He’s got a serious Cajun accent,” he told Latino Review back last year. “I don’t know if you’ve heard a Cajun accent but it’s – I mean, we’re going to have to have subtitles sometimes [laughs].”

Either way, it looks as though Tatum won’t have much time to prepare… as Carolin confirms that Gambit is heading for an Autumn shoot.

“We’ll shoot that in the fall,” he said. “We’ll probably start that in late October/November in New Orleans. Rupert Wyatt is our director, he’s pretty cool. I think the script is really good. To be honest, I don’t watch big movies for pleasure a lot, but this script convinced me that we should be making this movie, so…”

Will Channing Tatum perfect his Cajun accent by then? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But he’d better get practicing those card sleights, too.

‘Gambit’ heads to cinemas on 7 October 2016.
