‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ actress Gal Gadot did not know she was auditioning for the role of Wonder Woman before she was offered the role, it has been revealed.
Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, the 30-year old Israeli actress and model, previously seen in ‘Fast & Furious’ parts 5 and 6, says she only knew the part was “big, and for one of the franchises.”
Reportedly Gadot did not even read a scene from David Goyer’s screenplay for the film, instead performing a scene from ‘Pulp Fiction’ in her audition. As such, she was in for a surprise when director Zack Snyder revealed the truth.
“He said, ‘Well, I don’t know how big she is in Israel…’ and my jaw just dropped. There are so many expectations for this character, it’s impossible not to be a little nervous about it.”
From here, we’re told Gadot underwent six months of training, of which she states, “I love doing the swordplay stuff… it’s another skill to add to my collection,” though she says she’s “still working” on Wonder Woman’s iconic lasso-work.
While it remains unclear just how large a role Gadot will play alongside Ben Affleck’s Batman and Henry Cavill’s Superman in ‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice,’ Snyder describes the character of Wonder Woman as “super-important” and “the gateway drug to the ‘Justice League.’”
Perhaps most significantly, Gadot will go on to headline the first female-led superhero movie of this decade in 2017′s ‘Wonder Woman,’ for director Patty Jenkins.
It is also revealed that Gadot auditioned for a Bond girl role in ‘Quantum of Solace’ prior to landing ‘Fast & Furious 5.’
‘Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice’ opens in March 2016.
