‘Firefly’ star and geek idol Nathan Fillion has revealed his desire to play DC superhero Booster Gold, and if that doesn’t pan out he has some backup ideas too.
The actor made the comments during a panel (via ComicBook.com) at the Wizard World Comic Con event in Chicago this past weekend (21-23 August).
Asked which Marvel or DC Comics superhero he would play if given the chance, the 44-year-old actor said: “I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold. That’s kind of my niche… show-offy, vain. I think I could handle that… not too bright.”
Booster Gold is a character created in the 80s who is a time-traveller using his knowledge of future events to stage ego-feulling heroics. He has also been a member of the Justice League on occasion.
Asked if any other characters took his fancy, Fillion added: “I think Ambush Bug. Remember that guy? Little bit off his rocker. You’d never see my face. But I think Greatest American Hero is due for a reboot.”
He fielded the questions during a panel he attended alongside Adam Baldwin and Summer Glau too fellow stars from Joss Whedon’s ill-fated but long-remembered sci-fi series 'Firefly’.
Playing Captain Mal Reynolds in the series boosted Fillion’s profile and made him a favourite among nerds around the world. His biggest role to date has been as Richard Castle in ABC TV series 'Castle’ which enters its seventh season later this year.
