Premier League: 'Accidental bet' on Leicester wins firemen £20k

Two Essex firemen who thought they had backed Leicester City to win a single match have won £20,000.

Mitchell Baldock and Jordan Wright did not realise they were betting on a whole season

Two Essex firemen who thought they had backed Leicester City to win a single match have won £20,000.

Jordan Wright believed he had placed a £5 bet on Leicester to win their first game of the season against Sunderland - at odds of 2,000/1.

He persuaded Mitchell Baldock to do the same but neither realised the bet was to win the Premier League - but they are now both £10,000 richer after Claudio Ranieri's side claimed the title on Monday evening.

Wright admitted he and Baldock "thought BetFred had messed up the odds" for the match so placed a bet to take advantage.

Wright said he "didn't think too much" about the Foxes' fortunes during the season "until the last quarter", adding: "It was when they won 3-1 against Manchester City - that's when I started thinking we had a real chance of winning."

He is planning a trip to Las Vegas - gambling capital of the world - while Baldock is looking to to put his cash into a new buisness venture.
