Prince Philip funeral guest list: Who will attend?

On Saturday 17 April, the royal family will pay their respects to the Duke of Edinburgh with a small funeral attended only by close relatives due to coronavirus restrictions.

Prince Philip passed away on Friday 9 April at the age of 99 at Windsor Castle.

It will be a royal ceremonial funeral (like those held for the Queen’s mother and Princess Diana) as opposed to a state funeral, which is usually reserved for the head of state.

While such a high profile funeral would normally be attended by hundreds of guests with crowds of the public gathering nearby in support, this year, just 30 people will be permitted to attend due to government guidelines. The public have been urged to “stay away” and leave messages of condolence online instead.

The 30-person limit does not include clergy; the Archbishop of Canterbury and the Dean of Windsor will preside over the service.

While the Queen and Prince Philip have 10 great-grandchildren, according to PA, the family have considered them too young to attend the televised event as they are all aged 10 and under.

While it’s not yet been announced exactly who will be attendance, here’s everything we know so far about who will most likely be at Prince Philip’s funeral on Saturday,

The decision to step back was made following his Newsnight interview with Emily Maitlis over his friendship with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.
