Publisher demands personal details from Cruise over lawsuit

Bauer Media wants information about his visitation of daughter Suri and involvement in Scientology

Bauer Media is demanding personal information from Tom Cruise as he prepares to sue the publishing company for $50 million (£32.2 million).

Cruise filed the lawsuit against the company in October last year after its magazine 'Life & Style' published an article suggesting that he had abandoned his daughter Suri in the wake of his divorce with Katie Holmes.

But according to the Hollywood Reporter, Bauer is now demanding details of visitation schedules, details of the extent of his contact with Suri following the pair's split and details of Cruise's involvement in Scientology, and how that played its part in decisions over visitation and communication with his daughter.

Cruise, meanwhile, is making his own list of demands from Bauer.

He is insisting they supply the identity of the source behind the story, the company's policy on paying and verifying the validity of such sources, and details of 'Bauer's history of bigotry and hatred toward minority religious groups and their members', thought to pertain to Cruise's involvement in the Church of Scientology.

The actor's long-time lawyer Bert Fields said: “Tom doesn't go around suing people. He's not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he's going to sue.”
