Quentin Tarantino says that his 'Star Trek' project could be his last movie

Rumours have been circulating around Quentin Tarantino's plan to quit the movie business after he's made 10 movies.

The director has said that he would like to bow out once he hits double figures, but that means that a rather unlikely project could be his last.

His current movie, Once Upon A Time In Hollywood, will land in the UK next month, and that's his ninth film.

But last year, he was linked to making an original Star Trek film, which could potentially be the director's tenth and therefore his swan song, and it seems he would be cool with that.

He told Cinemablend: “The idea was to throw a loophole into it. Which would be [to go], 'Uhhh, I guess Star Trek doesn’t count. I can do Star Trek…but naturally, I would end on an original.'

“But the idea of doing 10 isn’t to come up with a loophole. I actually think, if I was going to do Star Trek, I should commit to it. It’s my last movie. There should be nothing left-handed about it. I don’t know if I’m going to do that, but that might happen.”

Back when he made his debut with Reservoir Dogs in 1992, you'd have got pretty long odds on the man who would go on to make Pulp Fiction and Inglorious Basterds would be going out on the Starship Enterprise.

But he's previously said that a Tarantino chapter in the long-running sci-fi series could be a likelihood.

He told Slashfilm as recently as May this year: “It’s a very big possibility. I haven’t been dealing with those guys for a while cause I’ve been making my movie.

“But we’ve talked about a story and a script. The script has been written and when I emerge my head like Punxsutawney Phil, post-Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, we’ll pick up talking about it again.”

Mind you, he also told Australian GQ this month: “I see myself writing books and starting to write theatre, so I’ll still be creative. I just think I’ve given all I have to give to movies.”

He added: “Maybe I won’t go to 10. Maybe I’ll stop right now! Maybe I’ll stop while I’m ahead. We’ll see.”

Once Upon A Time In Hollywood arrives in the UK on August 16.
