A Quiet Place's spin-off movie has parted ways with writer-director Jeff Nichols.

Lauded for his low-budget beauties Shotgun Stories, Take Shelter and Midnight Special, the filmmaker was originally reeled in by franchise figure John Krasinski last year, but he's now opted to focus on a different sci-fi project (via Deadline).

The search for his replacement is already underway.

As it stands, not a great deal is known about the Quiet Place offshoot, only that it will be based on an idea dreamt up by Krasinski and used as a way to expand the universe.

Incase you needed a reminder, this particular universe is stalked by massive, razor-toothed aliens that prey on sound.

Meanwhile, Krasinski himself previously teased how Part II sneaks in a few Easter eggs that could be explored in the franchise's third instalment.

"A lot of the things I had thought were interesting to think about on Part I ended up being in the sequel," he said. "Any time I had ideas like that, I wrote them down in case there ever is a Part III or a third one. So I would be able to reference some of these things if there is a Part III.

"And we even went so far as to put in a couple Easter eggs, so that if I did do a third one, they would connect back to the second one."

Released back in May, the sequel featured Emily Blunt's widower Evelyn Abbott out in the wilderness with her two kids, with Cillian Murphy new on the scene as her late husband's old pal Emmett.

A Quiet Place Part II is now available on 4K Ultra HD, Blu-ray and DVD.
