When Steven Spielberg and George Lucas resurrected Indiana Jones for a fourth time, they laboured under the wholly unimaginative code name of ‘Genre’ rather than revealing the film’s real title ‘Kingdom of the Crystal Skull’.

In some cases, the working title stuck.

Samuel L Jackson’s ‘Snakes on a Plane’ was due to be retitled ‘Pacific Air Flight 121’ for its wider release, but the producers stuck with the code name at Jackson’s request with the Nick Fury actor saying “That's the only reason I took the job: I read the title."
