R-Rated Batman v Superman May Hit Cinemas To Boost Box Office

Warner Bros may give a cinematic release to the R-Rated cut of ‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ to help boost the film’s disappointing box office figures.

An R-Rated cut was previously promised for the home release, but the at-best lukewarm reception to the film may have caused a change of plan.

Rumours of a theatrical run come from the Heroic Insider show (via ScreenCrush) and nothing has yet been confirmed by Warner Bros.

In the show, host Umberto Gonzalez says he’s heard that the three-hour cut will release before the film’s DVD and Blu-Ray release set for July in the US.

It’d be a viable way for Warner Bros to help the film reach $1 billion at the worldwide box office, which is now the benchmark for a major blockbuster succes.

On its current run 'Dawn of Justice’ seems unlikely to reach that target, as evidenced by new Melissa McCarthy comedy 'The Boss’ beating it to the top spot at the US box office this past weekend.

The R-Rated version of the film was confirmed back in February, and director Zack Snyder revealed that one of the scenes included will feature a mystery character played by Jena Malone - believed to be Barbara Gordon.
