Randi Olsen Named Sr. VP Income Tracking at UMPG

Randi Olsen has been promoted to senior VP, Income Tracking and Analytics, of Universal Music Publishing Group, according to a company-issued statement. Olsen has been with UMPG, the world’s second largest music publishing company, since 1997, establishing its Income Tracking department, which she has overseen from its genesis.

According to UMPG, “in 18 years under her direction, has identified more than $30 million of previously misdirected or uncollected revenue for the company and its artists and writers.”

It’s an especially important area in this age of digital sales and Cloud-based subscription services. According to the statement, Olsen will expand the department’s scope to provide UMPG writers with key analytic insights related to its global income streams.

She will also continue to oversee North America income tracking efforts of UMPG, whose massive roster includes Adele, U2, Justin Bieber and Paul Simon.

According to Michael J. Sammis, UMPG’s exec VP, operations and CFO worldwide, “the importance of income tracking in the music publishing industry cannot be overstated,” adding that Olsen and her staff will “work closely with all departments, including Licensing and Creative, to identify issues and secure, protect and maximize our collective economic interests.”

Added Olsen in a statement: “I’m very grateful for the incredible opportunity to expand our income tracking operations, particularly during this time in our business when this area is even more complex and important to the future of our industry.”

Prior to UMPG, Olsen worked in income tracking at Windswept Pacific Music Publishing.
