Rapper branded 'pure evil' on Hugh Jackman film

South African music star Ninja reportedly written out of some scenes.

A rapper with a part in new Hugh Jackman movie 'Chappie' has been branded 'pure evil' for his on-set behaviour, according to reports.

Ninja, one half of the controversial South African rap duo Die Antwoord, has a role as a gangster in the film, the next project from the 'District 9' and 'Elysium' director Neill Blomkamp, and which also stars Dev Patel, Sigourney Weaver and Sharlto Copley.

But sources on set have told the South African website City Press that he has 'made life hell' on set for a number of cast and crew.

One female member of the team called him 'pure evil', while another added: “I don’t ever want to be in the same room as him again.”

It's also claimed that he was purposely written out of a scene in which he was set to appear opposite Jackman, because director Blomkamp 'didn't want Ninja back on set'.

One source claimed that Ninja, real name Watkin Tudor Jones, became increasingly physical and violent in his role, and wanted to phone Blomkamp 'every five minutes' to discuss his character with him.

Meanwhile, two other sources told the website that he had sent explicit photos of himself to a female crew-member, and sexually propositioned others.

It's also alleged that while showing co-star Dev Patel around the working class Johannesburg suburb of Fietas, he gave him a cake, but neglected to tell him it was laced with marijuana.

Said the source: “Ninja gave Dev a ‘space cake’ to eat. Dev ate some but then his bodyguard took it saying there might be marijuana inside. Dev was livid.”

Crew-members were also irritated by Ninja and his wife Yo-landi Vi$$er, who is the other half of the band and also has a role in the film, because they refused to sit and eat with the rest of the crew.

“Take Hugh Jackman,” said one source. “In Soweto, he would sit with the crew and eat whatever everyone else was eating. Nicest guy.

“Die Antwoord are vegan and they refused to eat the vegetarian food on set. They made their driver go into town from Soweto every day to fetch special food.”

Though the production and representatives for Die Antwoord have remained tight-lipped on the claims, another source said that it's unlikely Ninja will be working with Blomkamp again in the future.

“He was stupid,” said a source. “He’s totally burnt his bridges with Neill.”

'Chappie' is due out in March next year.
