Rashida Jones accepts honorary Oscar for late father Quincy Jones

Rashida Jones paid tribute to her late father Quincy Jones as she accepted an honorary Oscar on his behalf at the Governors Awards on Sunday.

The 48-year-old actress was accompanied on stage by three of her siblings, Martina, Quincy and Kenya, as she made an emotional speech about the iconic music producer, who died earlier this month.

"Our father passed away two weeks ago today," Rashida told the audience. "Four of the seven of Jones' children are here and our beautiful family in the audience, and he has so many friends in this room - well, actually, probably in every room."

She added, "He had this natural gift with people. He knew how to stay present, stay curious and stay loving."

Rashida went on to explain that it had been a "difficult decision" to attend the awards ceremony, but Quincy's family had decided it was a fitting way to remember his "beautiful" life and career.

"His music has literally defined an entire century of culture - jazz, disco, film, pop, hip-hop, but the real thread in his music is that his music is all infused with his love," she shared.

Rashida also revealed Quincy had been thrilled at the prospect of accepting the award and had been working on a speech for the special occasion.

"He really, really, really intended on being here with us," she explained sadly.

Rashida then read out part of her father's acceptance speech: "I was always keenly aware of the enormous power that we possessed as filmmakers, that the art we created, the stories we told, if we were lucky, had a chance to move people in ways that they could never imagine, to make society and the world a more understanding and embracing place for us all to exist."

Quincy was given the award to celebrate his contribution to film music.

The 91-year-old star scored films including The Color Purple, The Italian Job and The Wiz during his illustrious career.

He passed away on 3 November at his home in Los Angeles.
