It’s still very early days for The Batman, the Matt Reeves directed reboot starring Robert Pattinson as the caped crusader, in full dark knight detective mode.

Normally these movies are kept super-secret at this stage, but it appears Reeves has been letting people into the pre-production process.

His frequent collaborator, composer Michael Giacchino, appears to be one of those lucky people, and he’s happy with what he saw.

“Matt [Reeves] and I worked on Planet of the Apes together, we made Cloverfield. Matt is really big, Matt’s amazing. So, Matt wanted me to tell you that he’s working very hard to make a good movie,” Giacchino told the Comic-Con audience in San Diego.

“I’ve actually been able to see a few things that he’s showed me that he’s working on and it’s pretty darn awesome. It looks really, really amazing.”

But does that mean he’ll be working on the score? It’s an element that’s arguably as important as the actor who pulls on the cape and cowl.

“I don’t know,” Giacchino says. “We’ll see. I just know that my friend is working really hard right now. Anyway, I’ll say that.”

There could be a very good reason why Reeves is so hard at work at the moment - with the rumour-mill suggesting that The Batman will start production on January 13 in the UK.

If it does shoot in the UK, it’ll join Tim Burton’s Batman, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight Rises, Batman v Superman and Justice League.

So, yeah, it’s mostly in good company! Mostly!

Oh, and Giacchino was kind enough to provide inspiration for his friend, asking the Comic-Con crowd to chant ‘Hey Matt, don’t screw up our Batman movie!’ Reeves took note, and tweeted his response.

The Batman will be in UK cinemas on 25 June 2021.
