Rebecca Ferguson lands next movie role in Chris Pratt thriller

Rebecca Ferguson has landed her next movie role opposite Chris Pratt in new thriller Mercy.

The sci-fi is set in a near future where capital crime is on the rise, and focuses on a detective (Pratt) who is forced to prove his innocence after being accused of a violent crime (via Deadline).

Mercy is aiming to start filming in spring, and comes from director Timur Bekmambetov (Wanted) and writer Marco van Belle (Arthur & Merlin). Who Ferguson plays remains under wraps for now.

The actress is currently starring in Dune: Part Two, reprising her role as Lady Jessica from the 2021 original movie.

Following its release last week, the sequel is already setting the box office alight, taking in $81.5 million in the US on its opening weekend, marking the biggest opening weekend of the year so far. It is also the largest since Taylor Swift's The Eras Tour film.

It has also taken $97 million internationally, and is director Denis Villeneuve's best US debut ever.

A third movie based on Dune: Messiah is rumoured to be in the works, with Villeneuve recently telling Digital Spy: "We are in early stages. We are in the right direction.

"There's a lot of work that has been done, but there's a lot of work that needs to be done in order to have something solid to shoot."

In DS's four-star review, we said: "Dune: Part Two is as visually stunning and epic as the first movie, wrapping up this near-perfect two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert's book with an even more impressive cast in an action-packed epic."

Dune: Part Two is now out in cinemas.
