Rebel Wilson sued for defamation

Rebel Wilson is being sued for defamation by The Deb producers ahead of her directorial debut.

Producers Amanda Ghost, Gregor Cameron and Vince Holden have filed a lawsuit that serves to hold "Rebel accountable for her attempts to bully plaintiffs into conceding to her unreasonable demands by spreading vicious lies without regard for the irreparable damage her reckless words would cause".

According to court documents obtained by Us Weekly, the producers further allege that Wilson "behaved unprofessionally with employees" and "repeatedly made unauthorised and improper disclosures" about the film.

According to the documents, Wilson's conduct "has caused severe financial, professional and reputational harm to the plaintiffs and jeopardised the success of the film".

The lawsuit comes after Wilson posted a video via Instagram where she expressed her disappointment that The Deb wouldn't premiere at the Toronto Film Festival. She questioned why her business partners would not want the movie to premiere there.

Wilson said she reported the producers' "bad behaviour", which allegedly included "inappropriate behaviour towards the lead actress of the film" and "embezzling funds from the film's budget".

Ghost, Cameron and Holden denied embezzling from the film's budget and said there was "absolutely no basis in reality" to claims a producer harassed a lead actor.

The Deb is an original comedy musical starring Tara Morice and Naomi Sequeira. The film follows two teen girls who attend a debutante ball in a small country town.
