Reclusive director Terrence Malick accidentally caught on camera

Director Terrence Malick was accidentally captured on film as paps snapped Benicio del Toro

The reclusive director famously shuns the Hollywood spotlight in order to protect his privacy and on the whole it seems to have paid off, as the video shows him go untroubled by the paparazzi while Benicio del Toro is photographed alongside him.

The video of Malick and del Toro originally appeared on TMZ at the weekend, showing them outside a Hollywood restaurant. The photographer ignores Malick completely and asks del Toro which countries he thinks should be brought into the United States.

When Malick catches sight of the camera he subtly tries to turn and move away, as you would when you're as press shy as he is - the director doesn't often promote his films on camera, and avoids photocalls.

Days after the video originally appeared, New York Magazine's Vulture picked up on the fact it was Malick, who looks fairly different from the one released press shot that tends to show up with every story about him. THR reports that these are the first images of him in several years.

Terrence Malick is currently filming ‘Knight Of Cups’, starring Christian Bale, Cate Blanchett, and Natalie Portman, in Los Angeles, where the TMZ clip was filmed.
