Redmayne Keeping Career On Track With Thomas

After winning an Oscar Eddie Redmayne won't be railroaded into taking new roles, but he has agreed to voice one of the engines in a new Thomas The Tank Engine film.

The Theory Of Everything star will feature in the Thomas And Friends special DVD, Sodor's Legend Of The Lost Treasure, as the voice of a new engine called Ryan.

He said: "I grew up loving to watch Thomas and his pals getting caught up in unexpected and mischievous adventures.

"I jumped at the opportunity to get involved and what fun it was. I have never voiced an animated character before, and I had a complete blast."

The cast includes veteran actor John Hurt and Twilight star Jamie Campbell Bower.

"I remember watching Thomas The Tank Engine with my children when they were young and I'm delighted that it continues to appeal to each successive generation," added Hurt.

This year marks the 70th anniversary of the Thomas The Tank Engine brand.

Redmayne, whose performance as scientist Stephen Hawking also won him a Golden Globe, a BAFTA and a Screen Actors Guild award, is also likely to be recognised at the Empire Awards .

He is again nominated for the best actor award and faces competition from two of the men he beat to the best actor Oscar - Benedict Cumberbatch and Bradley Cooper, as well as The Hobbit's Richard Armitage and Andy Serkis from Dawn Of The Planet Of The Apes.
