Restaurant owner slams influencer over alleged 'disgusting' requests: 'WTF is wrong with people?'

Restaurants have been hit especially hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. In fact, according to one study conducted by the National Restaurant Association, 17 percent of restaurants in the U.S. closed either permanently or long-term as a result of the global crisis.

Right now, restaurants all over the world are doing everything they can to stay afloat. So, when Four Legs, a pop-up operating out of The Compton Arms in the U.K., got an alleged request from an influencer for free food, the owners decided to have some fun and teach the person a lesson.

According to some screenshots posted by the restaurant’s Instagram account, the unnamed influencer allegedly reached out to the owners asking for free food in exchange for some posts on their Instagram Story about the restaurant with a swipe-up link to the establishment’s website.

Initially, the restaurant owners went along with the influencer’s alleged request — or at least, pretended to.

After giving the influencer the restaurant’s “address,” they then asked if they could have a few more meals for their “bubble” — five in total.

“That’s quite a lot of food,” the restaurant responded. “If you could do a couple of posts then we can do it — you’ve got a lot of followers!”

After setting up a time for the influencer to pick up their food, the restaurant told them to reach out when they arrived at Tolpuddle St. This is where they said the restaurant was located — but a quick Google search would’ve revealed that it’s actually located on Compton Ave.

In reality, the folks behind Four Legs gave the influencer the address for the police station. When the influencer confirmed that he was at the station, the owners said, “Go in there and report yourself for crimes against the hospitality industry.”

Four Legs’ exchange with the anonymous influencer has received more than 33,000 likes on Instagram plus hundreds of comments from users who found the ordeal “hilarious.”

“This is golden. Good for you guys,” one person said. “WTF is wrong with people?”

“Love this,” another added. “Thanks for exposing absolutely disgusting behavior.”

“This is poetry,” a coffee company wrote. “I simply divert these people to the website and tell them we will happily send out anything they purchase.”

Many restaurants have taken to social media to call out this kind of alleged demanding influencer behavior amid the pandemic. One photographer, for instance, called out an influencer for allegedly asking her for hours of free help during her wedding. Over the summer, an Irish restaurant also expressed its confusion after claiming an influencer asked for “special rates” when the entire world is suffering.
