The Real Housewives of Orange County star Braunwyn Windham-Burke has come out as lesbian in a heartfelt interview with GLAAD. "I'm finally comfortable enough to say I like women, I'm gay," she said.

Braunwyn, who recently spoke to Digital Spy about the latest difficult season of RHOC, said that she was "proud" to be "a member of the LGBTQIA+ community."

Speaking to Anthony Ramos, Braunwyn opened up about her experience of coming to terms with her sexuality. "It has taken me 42 years to say that, but I'm so proud of where I am right now, and I'm so happy [about] where I am," she shared.

"To be able to be comfortable in my own skin after so long is just so nice."

Braunwyn revealed that a scene with Real Housewives co-star Tamra Judge prompted a conversation with a producer on the show that led her to say "This is who I am" and to talk about her feelings with family and friends.

"I'm just now starting to feel like I'm becoming the woman I'm supposed to be," she added. "To be living completely authentically and say 'I'm a lesbian', that was who I've always been. This isn't something that is new.

"I've always known it, but it took me personally 42 years to be comfortable enough in my own skin to say that."

The Real Housewives star also offered an update on her marriage to Sean Burke, who she shares seven children with, telling GLAAD that although they "are in unchartered territories", they intend to stay married.

"I love Sean. I love him dearly, he is my person, he is my family," she explained. "But I'm not attracted to men and I never have been. I love him."

Adding that the couple were navigating the situation in their "own way", Braunwyn insisted that their relationship is still very close. "Sean and I are still married, I plan on staying married," she said.

"We are not sleeping in the same bedroom right now, but we are in the same house. We are raising our kids together, he's my best friend. He knows the girl I'm dating."

The Real Housewives of Orange County season 15 is available to stream and download on hayu and hayu on NOWTV.
