Richard Linklater’s ‘Boyhood’ Set for Summer Release

IFC Films has set Richard Linklater’s time-lapse drama “Boyhood” for a July 11 U.S. release.

The film, starring Ellar Coltrane, Ethan Hawke, Patricia Arquette and Lorelei Linklater, premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January. Linklater won the Silver Bear for Best Director at the Berlin Film Festival.

“Boyhood” was filmed in short stretches of time during a 12-year period between 2002 and 2013. It follows a brother and sister on their journey from childhood to adulthood.

In his review, Variety’s Peter Debruge said the film “challenges popular notions of dramatic development.”

“Boyhod” was produced by Linklater, Cathleen Sutherland, Jonathan Sehring and John Sloss, and was fully financed by IFC Films.
