Hairspray director John Waters was reunited with the film's star, Ricki Lake, as he received a career achievement award in Los Angeles.
Ricki presented the award to the 66-year-old, who she described as one of her "favourite people", at the opening night of the Outfest Film Festival.
"I'm here honouring John Waters, one of my favourite people in the world," she said.
"John gave me my start, and I have the career I have because of him discovering me way back when."
Ricki has starred in five of John's movies, including Hairspray, Cry-Baby, Serial Mom and Cecil B Demented.
But the Baltimore-born filmmaker said he couldn't take all the credit for kickstarting Ricki's career.
"I met Ricki when she was 17, and she would have been a star without me, but she really made Hairspray what it was," he said.
Meanwhile, actress and talk show host Ricki has revealed she's in a "very good place" in her life.
Speaking to reporters, she said she'd just returned from a honeymoon trip to Spain with new husband Christian Evans. "I just got home from honeymoon, so I'm in a very good place," she laughed.
Ricki married Christian, her second husband, in April.
