Ridley Scott Casually Changes Prometheus 2 Title During Interview

The sequel to ‘Prometheus’ seems to be gathering pace, despite the 2012 movie gaining mixed reviews upon its release. But Sir Ridley Scott, the film’s director, has now dropped a bombshell over the title.

With the titled previously confirmed as ‘Prometheus: Paradise Lost’, a recent interview with Scott has suggested he not only had a different title in mind, but has now changed it entirely.

During AFI Film Festival, IndieWire reported that the ‘Alien’ director has - in the most casual of ways - altered the title to ‘Alien: Covenant’.

Speaking about which projects follows others in his career, he said he doesn’t plan them out: “I go from pillar to post randomly. I have this childlike fascination and thrill of doing it.”

Then, without warning, he slips in the alternate title: “I was going to be doing what will be called ‘Alien: Covenant’, which starts shooting next February…”

Back up a moment. ‘Alien: Covenant’? This is literally brand new information to everyone. Is can’t simply the old or working title Scott is using. We assume that a director would surely use the actual name of their upcoming movie, but no one even questioned him about it!

So the word ‘covenant’ means ‘an agreement’ and has religious connotations to do with humanity - a deal with the Gods, perhaps? And it means the title is now directly back in keeping with the ‘Alien’ franchise, maybe to entice long-term franchise fans back with name familiarity.

What’s more, we’ve got a shooting start date, which he reveals as February, 2016, so looks likely it’ll be in US cinemas on 30 May, 2017, according to the new title’s IMDb page.
