Disney is planning another live-action adaptation of 'The Jungle Book', according to reports.

It will be the third adaptation of Rudyard Kipling's book by the studio, following the original 1967 animated film and the 1994 live-action version starring Jason Scott Lee as Mowgli.

This latest crack at the story is to be penned by Justin Marks, who has worked on development scripts with Disney, including the stalled reboot of '20,000 Leagues Under The Sea', and who wrote 'Street Fighter' sequel 'Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li'.

But the news comes after last year's announcement that Warner Bros also has a live-action version of the story in development.

Its take on the popular fables is being written and directed by Steve Kloves, who adapted the Harry Potter films for the screen.

Because Kipling's book is now in the public domain, it means that any studio can use the source material.

The book is a collection of stories set in the jungles of India, the best known being that of Mowgli, a boy raised by wolves and who becomes friends with a bear, Baloo, and a panther called Bagheera.

It was first published in 1894.
