Yahoo Movies Riverdale star's horror reboot confirms May 2024 release date
Riverdale star Madelaine Petsch's new film The Strangers: Chapter 1 has confirmed a release date.
The movie, which is a remake of 2008 cult horror The Strangers starring Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman, will arrive in US cinemas on May 17, 2024. A UK release date has not yet been confirmed.

The news was announced on the film's Instagram account, alongside a frightening teaser image, with the simple caption: "The Strangers: Chapter 1. Arriving 5.17.24."
Petsch will star in the new film as Maya, who gets trapped in a woodland rental property with her fiancé Ryan (Cruel Summer's Froy Gutierrez), where they are terrorised by three masked strangers.
This will be the first film in the franchise since The Strangers: Prey at Night, released in 2018, which followed a family who are stalked by a dangerous trio while staying at a secluded mobile home park.
The remake is set to mark the start of a new trilogy, with two more chapters taking The Strangers series into a new era.
Alongside Petsch and Gutierrez, The Strangers: Chapter 1 will also feature former Hollyoaks star Rachel Shenton, Hillbilly Elegy's Gabriel Basso and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power's Ema Horvath.

Back in October, a scary teaser clip for the remake was released, which sees Petsch's character getting a persistent visitor at her front door, with the mysterious guest asking repeatedly: "Is Tamara here?"
In a previous statement about the reboot, producer Courtney Solomon praised the Riverdale actress and said: "When setting out to remake The Strangers, we felt there was a bigger story to be told, which could be as powerful, chilling, and terrifying as the original and could really expand that world.
"Shooting this story as a trilogy allows us to create a hyperreal and terrifying character study. We're fortunate to be joining forces with Madelaine Petsch, an amazing talent whose character is the driving force of the story."
The Strangers: Chapter 1 comes to US cinemas on May 17, 2024.
