Robert Downey Jr pulled in a wage packet of an astonishing $75 million – just under £60 million – for starring in Avengers: Endgame.

According to a report in Forbes, he received an upfront salary of $20 million, and coined the rest in through his profit share deal of the movie, which made $2.7 billion at the worldwide box office.

RDJ apparently earns a further eight percent from the movie's profit, after its production and marketing costs, which are said to be in the region of $700 million so far, meaning he earned another $55 million on top of his salary.

The figure made him the highest-paid actor in the movie – which is probably fair enough – beating salaries of a reported $15 million each for Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow) and Chris Evans (Captain America).

All the data comes from the magazine's annual Forbes 100 rich list, which blows open some further eye-popping numbers.

In all, Downey Jr, Hemsworth, Evans, Johansson, Paul Rudd (Ant-Man) and Bradley Cooper (Rocket Raccoon) made a staggering $340 million between them from the movie.

Cooper, meanwhile, who only provides his voice for the grizzled CGI raccoon, has a one percent deal on profits, meaning he earned an extra $7 million.

But it's just the latest ludicrous payday for Downey Jr.

Famously, he made $10 million from his brief role in Spider-Man: Homecoming in 2017 – equating to $1 million per minute on screen.

Prior to the release of Endgame, it was estimated that he’d made in the region of $200 million from Marvel, over all the movies he’s appeared in, not including this extra bump.
