Robin Williams 'Back For Mrs Doubtfire Sequel'

Robin Williams 'Back For Mrs Doubtfire Sequel'

Robin Williams is to make a sequel to his 1993 hit Mrs Doubtfire, according to reports.

Williams won a best actor Golden Globe for his role as an estranged father who adopts the persona of a Scottish nanny to be closer to his three children.

The Hollywood Reporter claims director Chris Columbus, who directed the comedy, will take on the project with David Berenbaum, who wrote Elf, writing the script.

The film, which also starred Sally Field as the children's mother, was a huge box office success, taking over $441m (£262m) worldwide. It was the second highest-grossing film of 1993 after Jurassic Park.

It also picked up an Oscar for best make-up.

Rumours of a sequel have been around for years but problems with the plot have led to delays. It is not known if any of the other original cast members will star in the film but Mara Wilson who played Nattie Hillard in the film has ruled herself out.

She tweeted: "I've been in some mediocre movies, but I've never been in a sequel. And I have no interest in being in one now.

"Sequels generally suck unless they were planned as part of a trilogy or series. I think Doubtfire ended where it needed to end," she wrote.

Williams has been unable to match the success he saw in the 1990s with films such as Good Will Hunting for which he won a best supporting actor Academy Award.

His film The Angriest Man in Brooklyn with Mila Kunis is released in the US in May and he also stars in CBS' The Crazy Ones.
