Rogue to return in X-Men: Days of Future Past?

New Empire cover hints at a spectacular comeback

COMMENT | After reportedly being cut from the upcoming 'X-Men: Day of Future Past', it looks as though Anna Paquin could yet return as the lovable Rogue.

It's been an interesting day for 'X-Men' fans as Empire Magazine has been busy releasing their all-new 'X-Men' themed covers. But while they've all revealed a glimpse at some of our favourite Marvel mutants, there were some that really stood out from the crowd. Rumoured to have been cut from the final film, it looks as though Anna Paquin has taken centre-stage for one of these impressive new covers. But does that mean her scenes have been restored?

It's set to be one of the biggest superhero movies of all-time.. at least, in terms of characters. But while 'X-Men: Days of Future Past' has an already hefty ensemble cast, it seems there's one mutant the fans just can't do without.

After rumours that Anna Paquin would return as fan-favourite, Rogue, it looked as though director Bryan Singer might have given her the chop. Explaining that she was set to appear in just a single scene, it seems that time constraints meant the cameo appearance just had to go.

"Through the editing process, the sequence became extraneous," he said. "It's a really good sequence and it will probably end up on the DVD so people can see it. But like many things in the editing process, it was an embarrassment of riches and it was just one of the things that had to go. Unfortunately, it was the one and only sequence Anna Paquin was in, the Rogue character was in."

And that was the end of that… or so we thought. But now, Anna Paquin has taken centre-stage in a newly released Empire Magazine cover. And it's led many to believe that she may have made it back into the movie after all.

Unfortunately, there's no official word. At least, not yet… but Empire promise that a definitive answer will be found inside their latest issue.

For those asking if our Rogue cover means Rogue is in the movie, a definitive statement from Bryan Singer and Simon Kinberg is in the issue.

Of course, whether or not Anna Paquin makes the cut remains to be seen. But it looks as though we'll find out soon enough. Personally, I think they'd be mad not to include her in the final cut of the film. And as a fan-favourite, it's likely to put a smile on the faces of most 'X-Men' fans. But for now, we'll just have to wait and see.
