Mark Romanek will not be directing fairytale remake Cinderella, which is set to star Cate Blanchett.
The Never Let Me Go director has parted ways with Disney, reportedly due to creative differences, with his "dark" take on the story conflicting with what the studio wants, reported Deadline.com.
"The Walt Disney Studios and Mark Romanek have parted ways on Disney's Cinderella project," a statement from the film studio read.
"We are committed to moving the project forward and have begun the search for a new director. The team here at Disney respects Mark as both a director and a friend, and we hope to find something to work on together in the future."
Cate is set to play the evil stepmother in the live-action remake, and the search for an actress to play Cinderella is still in process, with Saoirse Ronan, Gabrielle Wilde and Alicia Vikander in the frame.
