Rosamund Pike had never seen Bond before film debut

Rosamund Pike had never seen a James Bond movie before she was cast in Die Another Day, which meant she made a major fashion faux pas during her audition.

The actress made her feature film debut playing double agent Miranda Frost opposite Pierce Brosnan in the 2001 action flick but had never seen any of the franchise and did not do her research before her audition.

Her cluelessness meant she didn't know that Bond girls were supposed to be sexy and wear figure-hugging clothes, so she turned up in something completely inappropriate for the character.

She tells W magazine, "Before I was cast as a Bond girl, I had never actually seen a James Bond movie. The Bond audition was strange - I'd just come back from China, doing the kind of hippie-backpacking thing that people do when they leave school.

"All the girls in this beautiful old town house waiting to see the casting director were sleek and dressed in what seemed to me like leather. I was wearing something very thick and woolly. I was convinced I was all wrong."

Still, the producers seemed to take a liking to her, even if she had no clue what her character would wear.

Rosamund adds, "My idea of a dress was an operatic concert gown. I quite proudly took the dress out at the second audition, and they all tried very hard not to laugh. They politely told me that in James Bond films, the women tended to look sort of slinky."

Her lack of preparation clearly worked! Perhaps the moral of the story is don't do the same as everyone else...
