Rumour: Eva Mendes May Headline Fast & Furious Spin-off Movie

If recent reports are to be believed, the ‘Fast & Furious’ series may have a whole lot more Eva Mendes in its future.

The 41-year old actress joined the fuel-injected franchise as US Customs agent Monica Fuentes back in 2003′s ‘2 Fast 2 Furious,’ and briefly reprised the role in the end credits stinger on ‘Fast Five.’

However, word is she’s coming back in a big way, taking a central role in the upcoming ‘Fast 8′ - and potentially taking the lead in an Agent Fuentes solo movie thereafter.

This is the claim made by We Got This Covered, who say that studio Universal, director F Gary Gray and actor-producer Vin Diesel want to use ‘Fast 8′ to “test how [Mendes] does with audiences” - and if she goes down as well as they hope, she may get her spin-off.

There has been talk of an expanded ‘Fast & Furious’ movie universe for a while now, but the smart money was always on Dwayne Johnson’s scene-stealing super-soldier Hobbs getting the spin-off treatment first.

As such, it may come as a surprise that Mendes’ character may beat him to the punch - but word is Fuentes will be considerably beefed up in ‘Fast 8,’ with the film’s plot said to largely revolve around the character.

Further details are thin on the ground, but We Got This Covered also report that ‘Fast 8′ is to co-star young British actor Tommy Hatto, potentially as Fuentes’ son.

However, while all this remains unconfirmed, one thing that we do know for sure about ‘Fast 8′ is that it will take place in New York.

Vin Diesel has confirmed this by sharing the first official teaser image for ‘Fast 8′ above on Instagram.

As well as Diesel, Mendes, Hatto and Johnson, Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson are also expected to return in the sequel, scheduled to open on 14 April 2017.
