Ryan Reynolds auditioned for the Coen Brothers and it went horribly wrong

Ryan Reynolds has candidly revealed that he recently auditioned for the Coen Brothers. But don’t get excited about this potential cinematic match-up, because the Canadian actor admitted that it didn’t go so great.

Reynolds made this revelation to Taraji P. Henson as part of Variety’s Actors On Actors series, however he couldn’t quite remember if it was for their recent release ‘Hail, Caesar!’ or the pair’s previous film, 2013’s ‘Inside Llewyn Davis’.

All that he knows is that it went terribly. “I auditioned and failed for the Coen Brothers,” Reynolds confessed to a shocked Henson. “It was OK. It just wasn’t the right fit, unfortunately, mostly because they’re very high class.”

“In the room, they were just quietly shaking their heads, like, ‘What are you doing here? Do you have a SAG card? Or do you have the Canadian version?’”

Taraji P. Henson was dismayed by Reynolds’ revelation, before she admitted that she couldn’t even remember her last audition, which he insisted was a “good sign.” Henson then gave herself a minute to truly recollect, before striking gold with ‘Scandal’, which is written by Shonda Rhimes.

The role eventually went to Kerry Washington, and Taraji P. Henson insisted that was meant to be, as she added, “Thank God Kerry got it. That was her job.”

Despite these rejections Taraji P. Henson and Ryan Reynolds have managed to do just fine. In fact, 2016 has been a rather impressive year for the two of them. Reynolds’ ‘Deadpool’ became the most successful R-rated film of all time, while Henson is a Best Actress Oscar front-runner for her work in ‘Hidden Figures’.
