Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds has paid tribute to the crew of his new action film Red Notice, praising the ‘grit’ and ‘sacrifice’ of the 300-strong team who completed the Netflix film amid the global pandemic.

Announcing wrapping the film, which also stars Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson and Gal Gadot, on Instagram the 44-year-old Canadian said: “My hat is OFF to this crew. I can’t emphasize their grit enough.

“Over 300 souls living in a sequestered bubble to make this a reality. They went to work under the most intense circumstances every day. That sacrifice is not only theirs, but it also belongs to their family, friends and loved ones who haven’t seen them in months.

“Not all heroes wear capes. Some wear masks. And visors. And have cotton swabs shoved up their noses every day.”

The new film, written and directed by Skyscraper and Central Intelligence’s Rawson Marshall Thurber, began production earlier this year but was shut down in March by the coronavirus pandemic. Described as an art heist thriller, the film is Dwayne Johnson and Gal Gadot’s first Netflix Original film, and is reported to have a huge $130m budget.

Former wrestling star Johnson is said to be playing a law enforcement officer who is on the tail of a conman (Reynolds) and a renowned cat burglar (Gadot).

On her Instagram page, the Wonder Woman star said she couldn’t wait for her fans to see the film, and she also took time to recognise the commitment of the film’s crew.

“We had to be sequestered 24/7 and only go to and from set,” she wrote. “The crew had to be away from their families for several months and they worked their butts off so we can all deliver the best movie possible while keeping everyone safe.”

Red Notice will be released exclusively on Netflix in 2021.
