Saira Khan has shared an amazing throwback photo from her days at University back in the late Eighties and early Nineties and we're obsessed with all the perms and giant curls.

She was inspired to post the snap, filled with her beautiful friends in some classic Eighties fashions, after reuniting with them all over Zoom.

The women lost touch but this weekend came together decades on.

The recently departed Loose Women star told followers: "I went to Poly between 1988-1991 in Brighton where I met these gorgeous girls and last night, after so many years, we were brought together by Zoom. One dialled in from Utah and the rest of us from different parts of the UK.

"This is a photo from those days (can you spot me?). When we were young free and single, the best years of our lives. Real friends, growing up, experiencing life together and making memories. We were on our way to the annual Summer Ball in this photo."

Reminiscing about the special friendship, and those formative years, she said: "These girls (known as The G Block girls, the name of their halls of residence), they’ve never judged me, envied me or tried to knock me down in any way. They are my original sisterhood, examples of what real women and girls should be towards each other - caring.

"I was so naieve at 18, we all were, but they helped me navigate my way around clubs, boys and everything else to do with growing up. They never left me out because I didn’t drink, they included me and made me feel part of a great friendship."

Saira spoke about how important the reunion was to her, writing: "To this day they are cultured, educated, down to earth, friendly, inclusive and I am so chuffed to have reconnected with them after all these years.

"Busy lives, marriage, kids, motherhood, work, can all get in the way of keeping friendships alive - but the older you get, the more you crave that connection to your past, seek out the ones that truly made you smile and shared magical moments with.

"This pandemic is helping so many people to reconnect, focus on family and friendships and it’s uplifting and nourishing. There is some good in every bad situation."

She also had some words of advice for young people considering university.

Saying: "Going to University was one of the highlights of my life. For me it was where I grew up in a safe, secure environment. If you can, go and study, away from home, to experience real student life. Every penny you spend will be worth it, even just for the memories and experience.

She finished by addressing current students, whose experience has been so drastically altered by Covid19.

Telling followers: "My heart goes out to all the students at the moment in lockdown and doing on-line learning. Remember, it’s not forever and when you can go back to normal, you gotta party like it’s 1999!"
