Screenwriter Who Took Full Page Ad For Die Hard Script Signs Film Deal

‘Die Hard’ fan and Los Angeles screenwriter Eric D Wilkinson - who took out a fill page ad in The Hollywood Reporter advertising his script for the Bruce Willis action series - has signed a film deal.

He did not sign a deal to get his 'Die Hard’ script made however, instead signing with Eclectic Pictures, who showed interest in his high-concept horror script about the mythical Jersey Devil (pictured below alongside Willis).

The deal came about after Hollywood producer Avi Lernder (whose credits include 'Olympus Has Fallen’ and 'The Expendables’) asked Wilkinson to send him some scripts.

“The one thing I hope the ad demonstrated was that I’m a creative person with good ideas that resonate with people,“ Wilkinson told The Guardian. "Certainly getting this call, leading to this result, was the second-best scenario.

“Richard [Schenkman, his writing partner] and I have developed many ideas together but this is one of my favourites. Forget what you think you know about the Jersey Devil – ours is bigger, badder and scarier than anything you could possibly imagine.”

The Jersey Devil flying creature of legend said to live in Southern New Jersey in the United States. The legend dates back almost two hundred years.

Wilkinson’s 'Die Hard’ script would have seen a 60-year-old John McClane framed for murder and wrongfully imprisoned. In prison he learns of a terrorist plot to start a riot, escape and attack the United States.

The writer addressed the open letter on the ad to Bruce Willis, producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura and director Len Wiseman, who directed 2007’s 'Die Hard 4.0’ and is set to direct the touted 'Die Hard’ origin story which would star both Willis and a new actor as a young McClane.
