Sean Connery was almost in Skyfall

Director Sam Mendes thought about offering a role to the veteran Bond actor in the 23rd film

Director Sam Mendes has said that Sean Connery was almost considered for a role in the latest Bond film 'Skyfall'.

It was thought that the former Bond could have played the role of Kincade in Bond 23, the groundsman at Bond's family pile in Scotland.

The role instead went to veteran thesp Albert Finney, but not before Sir Sean was mulled for the part.

“There was a definite discussion about that - way, way early on,” Mendes told Movies.com, “but I think that’s problematic. Because, to me, it becomes too… it would take you out of the movie.

“Connery is Bond and he’s not going to come back as another character. It’s like, he’s been there.

“So, it was a very brief flirtation with that thought, but it was never going to happen, because I thought it would distract.”
