Sebastian Stan's controversial Donald Trump movie The Apprentice has landed a UK release date for later this year.

The movie, which follows the former US president's rise as a business mogul in the 1980s, was previously confirmed to be getting a release in Britain and Ireland in 2024.

It has now been revealed that The Apprentice will premiere in UK and Irish cinemas on October 18.

The movie "charts a young Donald Trump's ascent to power through a Faustian deal with the influential right-wing lawyer and political fixer Roy Cohn".

It is also tagged as "an exploration of power and ambition set in a world of corruption and deceit" and "a mentor-protegé story that charts the origins of an American dynasty".

"Filled with larger-than-life characters, it reveals the moral and human cost of a culture defined by winners and losers," the synopsis adds.

Stan takes on the role of Trump, with Succession star Jeremy Strong portraying Cohn and Guardians of the Galaxy's Maria Bakalova starring as his first wife Ivana.

The film, which is directed by Holy Spider's Ali Abbasi, premiered at the Cannes Film Festival earlier this year to largely mixed reviews, and currently sits at 77% on Rotten Tomatoes.

While it is lining up a UK release, The Apprentice is struggling to land a US release, which comes amid legal threats over the portrayal of Trump from his US presidential campaign team (via Variety).

Chief spokesperson for Trump's presidential campaign, Steven Cheung, has stated they "will be filing a lawsuit to address the blatantly false assertions".

The Apprentice will be released in UK and Irish cinemas on October 18.
