Mashed potatoes are the epitome of comfort food. They’re creamy, rich, warming and delicious. Plus, mashed potatoes go with just about anything, so they’re mega-versatile. And that’s before we’ve even started taking mashed sweet potatoes into consideration!?

There are lots of tips and tricks out there for improving your mashed potato recipes and giving you the best mashed potatoes ever. But there’s one thing I do every single time that, in my personal opinion, makes them so incredibly delicious and luxurious, this mash should probably be illegal.

So, I boil my potatoes and mash them like everyone else, but – and here’s when the magic happens – I add mayonnaise instead of butter or milk. Or, tbh, sometimes as well as butter or milk. Because, why the hell not at this point?!

Seeing as mayonnaise’s main ingredients are oil and egg yolk, the mayo brings a delicious rich, creamy texture and flavour to your mashed potatoes that you won’t believe.

It’s always best to use full-fat mayonnaise for this of course, because mash is all about livin’ it up in the lap of luxury.

Another fun and easy way of adding flavour to your mash is flavoured mayonnaise. Garlic mayonnaise is insanely delicious in mashed potatoes, as is the truffle mayonnaise Heinz released recently.
