Selena Gomez admits Emilia Perez movie was 'one of the most challenging things she'd done'

Selena Gomez has admitted her upcoming movie Emilia Perez was a challenging shoot.

The Only Murders in the Building actress filmed the Spanish-language musical crime comedy alongside Edgar Ramírez and Zoe Saldaña in Paris in the summer.

Reflecting on the experience, Selena said on Monday's episode of the SmartLess podcast, "I just finished this movie, this Jacques Audiard film, and it's all in Spanish and it's a musical and it was one of the most challenging things I'd done."

The 31-year-old explained that one scene made her remember the time she voluntarily went to rehab in early 2014 after being diagnosed with the autoimmune disease lupus.

"There's this scene where I'm being left - I'm not giving anything away - and I remember I channelled the moment when I had to go to rehab for the first time and leaving," she shared. "I remember I told my co-star that's what I was feeling in the moment and I just felt like it was just getting that out when I remembered that first moment and being terrified so it felt really cathartic."

She added, "I feel like I have these moments in my life that have happened and I'm able to use that and it actually feels great, it feels like after a good cry or something, it's a good feeling."

The singer and Rare Beauty founder told podcast hosts Jason Bateman, Will Arnett and Sean Hayes that she turns down a lot of the films she is offered because she wants to show off her acting range.

"I don't think I've been able to even touch the surface of what I know I'm capable of doing," she stated. "I'm very selective or else I'd been in all of the movies that I get offered. I just fight for my roles and I'm always auditioning so I like to earn it."

Earlier in the interview, Selena revealed she is considering quitting music after one more album and focusing on acting.
