Unveiled by the folks at Empire Magazine, these new shots show Kate Beckinsale getting back into the swing of things as she kick ass as the vampiric death dealer, Selene. And the 43-year-old actress doesn’t mince her words when it comes to Selene’s state of mind.

“She’s always been really passionate,” she reveals. “But now, in a way, she doesn’t really give a shit.”

“In Blood Wars, Selene is at a really low ebb,” she explains. “You see a different side to her. [Her one-time mentor] Viktor has emerged as a traitor. [Her lover] Michael has disappeared. She’s had a baby that she didn’t know about.”

‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ is the fifth film in the ‘Underworld’ series… and it’s safe to say that Selene has been through her fair share of trouble. But now ‘Blood Wars’ picks up where the 2012 ‘Underworld Awakening’ left off.

And we might well find a very different Selene by the end of the film.

“With Underworld you have rules that are very specific to the franchise, but you can veer off from that,” explained director Anna Foerster. “What I bring to this movie is a defined visual concept and some cool surprises. I think fans will see a new side to Selene.”

Of course, the recent trailer has already hinted that Selene would be picking up a few new skills… and after apparently paying some kind of sacrifice, we find that she’s able to move with ghostly silence and kill her foes with a reaper-like efficiency.

And that may be a big clue as to what happens to her.

‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ stars Kate Beckinsale, Theo James, Lara Pulver, Charles Dance, and Tobias Menzes.

Anna Foerster directed the film based on a script by Kyle Ward and Cory Goodman.

‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ opens in cinemas on 13 January 2017.
